A state may _require_ you to state your name when asked ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiibel_v._Sixth_Judicial_District_Court_of_Nevada ).

Beyond that, it's your choice, sort of.

If you choose to have an income, you may have to provide some info to SSA, IRS, and your state's tax authorities.

If you choose to drive, you may have to do some answering at your DMV.
