i'm using it..very happy.
Installation is relatively easy..they have all the directions on their website.

Never had any problems with billing.
A bit sucky when cable is not working, but cellphones usually save the day in those cases.
Also, if you move, you get to keep the number. Even if you move to the different state...which is pretty convenient.

А как Cablevision себя ведет в подобных условиях? Они вроде тоже телефонную связь предоставляют? И есть ли возможность с Vonage использовать обычные телефоны (и в каком числе)?

Just keep in mind that in case of real emergency (like 9/11 god forbid) the only means of communication will be a wired phone line -- Verizon.

actually vonage offers 911 now. You just need to activate it.

This is 2005..most of us have cellphones as a backup.

big electric outage etc- it is proven that landline phone is more reliable. first that goes down is cell, next is internet last- landline.

I've had vonage for more than a year. Since i got, i had problems twice, and both times it was related to my router.

I am sorry. 16 dollar bill vs. 40+ dollar bill...i'm going with vonage.

And finally..if we're going to start thinking with what if's..911 won't help you. If end of the world is coming, you won't be #1 priority:)

Actually, on 9/11, landline network was the second to fail, after the wireless network. On the 9th and the 10th long distance and local calls were intermittently failing. Verizon DSL had no problem at all.
Of course, in case of power interruption VoIP only users are out of luck.

Works great. I use it for 3 years. BUT. If you internet is down, say goodby to your communication abilities. And it is down much more often than the landline.

Broadvoice - наш ответ SBС! Vonage дороже и лочит свои устройства, а мне в них ковыряться нужно + раутить звонки самому. А в Broadvoice есть "Bring your own device", причем можно даже Asterisk. :)

Вообще провайдеров куча, не понятно почему рассматривается только Vonage. iconnecthere.com например... Пошопайтесь хоть для начала. Но как я сказал - мне broadvoice показался самым правильным и дешевым.

так вся идея этого поста и есть в том чтобы вы мне тут насоветовали разные компании и я пошла "шопаться", просто о Вонадже я слышала на выставке. Мне важно чтобы international calling как можно дешевле было (или как можно больше минут в месяц если бесплатно).

Посмотри на цены, я не знаю какой именно интернациональ тебе нужен. Есть планы где западная европа с канадой включена. Россия-Украина обычно всегда за деньги, но цены разумные. Я правда, хочу еще дешевле (и лучше), но для этого никак не дострою SIP router чтобы терминироваться на Украине самостоятельно.

Основной минус в этой VoIP я пока вижу только в том, что поскольку они настоящей телефонией не считаются (из-за чего не платят кучу налогов, то есть мы их не платим) то и phone # portability на них не распостраняется. То есть номер тебе выдают "до балды". Ну можно выбрать из нескольких вариантов, но старый теряется. Я пока его перевел в Inbound only и повесил на него автоответчик. То есть плачу что-то типа $5 в месяц за про-райтед звонки. Просто чтобы не потерять чей-то звонок...

Less dramatic and more common situations:
1. Internet is down – to call you provider.
2. Computer is down, and you don’t want to be isolated.
3. Local power outages. Both cell and landline services are not affected (you should have simple wired phone for landline, and keep cell battery charged).
